If you’re selling metal keychains, tags, or dog tags, this machine works well. I’ve tested it on aluminum and stainless steel samples. Contrast is good—not deep black like a CO2 can do on acrylic, but clean and permanent.

One thing I should mention: the included software is EZCAD—it takes a few tries to get the hang of it. Be patient. We wasted a couple of test pieces because we forgot to adjust the fill angle before starting. (Not a machine fault—operator error.)

How to Know Which Scenario You're In

This is where I stop pretending to be a generalist and give you a simple test: If you need to mark metal parts fewer than 100 per day, the Omni X is probably fine. If you're running production 8 hours a day, consider spending more on a machine with better cooling and warranty. If you need cutting—this is a fiber laser, it doesn't cut thick metal. Stick with a CO2 for wood/acrylic or a high-power fiber for thin metal.

The One Thing That Almost Made Me Send It Back

We had an issue with the included rotary attachment—it wasn’t aligning properly on cylindrical parts. I contacted support, got a response in about 48 hours, and they sent a replacement bracket. But I have mixed feelings: On one hand, the fix was free. On the other, losing 2 days waiting for a bracket when we had a project deadline was frustrating. It’s not a jack-of-all-trades. It doesn’t do wood, plastic, or cloth well. But for metal tags, parts, and tools at a reasonable price point, it does what it says. Just set your expectations correctly.

The best part of this purchase: I no longer have to explain to my VP why we're paying $4,000 for a job a $2,000 machine could do. That’s satisfying.
